The Company

NOMIS Projects Ltd are a small, diverse company based in London.

NOMIS are highly experienced in the field of undertaking Equality Impact Assessment (EqIA).

EqIA expertise in the transport sector is scarce and NOMIS are at the forefront of this developing area.

NOMIS have set the standards for the transport industry through development and production of the first major EqIA and Race Equality Impact Assessment undertaken for Transport for London (TfL) and the Department for Transport (DfT) on Crossrail.

NOMIS worked closely with the Department for Transport, Greater London Authority and Queen's Counsel in developing an acceptable and sustainable approach and process. This was supported by the design and delivery of three equality target group consultation events.

NOMIS' work has involved interpretation of equality and inclusion legislation, regulations and guidance, identification and classification of likely impacts, proposed impact mitigation, formulation of strategy, designing and conducting equality priority group consultation, analysing and responding to equality priority group consultation feedback, producing reports and delivering high level presentations.

NOMIS gave evidence on equality and inclusion and socially inclusive consultation techniques to the Crossrail House of Commons select committee.

NOMIS have now undertaken four major Transport EqIAs to date for Crossrail, the East London Line Project, West London Trams and London Underground's Public Private Partnership upgrade programme.

NOMIS have produced an 'EqIA Manager's Guide' for TfL projects to follow.

Other notable equality based assignments include production of TfL's Age Positive Equality Scheme, support in production of TfL's Gender Equality Scheme, a positive action study of underrepresented groups in the work place, EqIA data gathering for the East London Line Project, EqIA of London Underground's PPP and EqIA peer guidance to Cross River Trams and Greenwich Transit. NOMIS are also part of TfL's team advising on EqIA.

NOMIS have presented on EqIA matters to a number of major stakeholders including the London Equalities Commission and are registered as specialist advisors to the Communities and Local Government Parliamentary Committee on equality and inclusion issues in transportation.

NOMIS continue to build a database of likely impacts and mitigation, consultation issues and responses and general equality and inclusion issues for reference when advising and assessing projects.

NOMIS raised awareness and shared accumulated knowledge of EqIA with the rest of the industry at a national conference in June 2006 co-sponsored with the DfT and TfL.

NOMIS are hosting a programme of Public Sector Round Tables in 2008 using EqIA as a tool for promoting equality in public sector organisations.

To underpin NOMIS' EqIA work, the team have vast experience in planning, consultation, development and delivery of major projects through both the Transport and Works Act procedure and parliamentary Bill deposit including light, midi and heavy rail systems.
