Bernard Gambrill - Associate Director

Bernard Gambrill

Bernard is a railway civil engineer with a background in major project work and over 40 years experience in the transport sector. Early work involved him in the planning, design and supervision of the Bournemouth and Great Northern electrification schemes and line speed improvement on the Paddington to Didcot relief lines and on the Reading to Exeter route through Berkshire and Wiltshire.

Recruited by the Channel Tunnel Rail Link project in 1989 to be client civil engineer for the British Railways Board, he diversified to successively become the permanent way engineer, west and central Kent route planner, environmental manager, consultation and then finally statutory consents manager dealing with the presentation of the CTRL Bill to the House select committees.

Upon privatisation of CTRL, Bernard became Head of Public Affairs for the company responsible for the development of the high-speed line. He was responsible for the legislative development of the Channel Tunnel Rail Link and Crossrail where, in 2002, he assumed the same role. He was responsible for the development and delivery of major stakeholder and public consultations as well as the formation and preparation of the team that is presenting the Bill to the select committees.

Bernard had executive responsibility for the Crossrail EqIA and latterly undertook the stakeholder consultation on TfL's Age Positive Equality Scheme. He is currently developing the TfL EqIA process template and consulting with national organisations and decision makers on its definition.
