Adrian Cave - Access Advisor

Adrian Cave

Adrian Cave is an architect and access consultant with long experience of design and consultancy projects for disabled people and in connection with the Disability Discrimination Act (DDA). He was the first Access Consultant to be registered in the United Kingdom (NRAC No 001) and is a former Chairman of the Centre for Accessible Environments (CAE). He is also an Advisor to the RIBA on Disability, Access and Inclusive Environments, a Fellow of the Royal Society of Health and a member of the National Directory of Expert Advisers (Heritage Lottery Fund).

Recent projects include access consultancy for the Corporation of London (Museum of London); Parliamentary Works Directorate (Old Palace Yard & Houses of Parliament); Royal Hospital Chelsea; University of Westminster; Strawberry Hill, Twickenham (World Monuments Fund); London Underground (with Turner & Townsend); Crossrail (with David Bonnett Associates); access consultancy for London Boroughs of Richmond-upon-Thames, Southwark, Croydon etc.

A study by Adrian Cave for the Museums, Libraries and Archives Council (MLA) was followed by presentations in UK, Spain, Denmark, Germany, Norway and Serbia to illustrate good practice in the design of museums and art galleries. His book on the subject was published by the RIBA in 2007 and has been described as setting 'the benchmark against which future projects are judged'. This will be followed by a second book for the RIBA on the subject of access and inclusive design.
